"For your light will shine like the dawn into darkness and the Lord will be your guide."
The Moxos region of north central Bolivia is truly an enchanted land of plush forests and spacious grasslands teaming with an innumerable variety of animals and birds living in harmony in their tropical home. Founded in 1689 by Jesuit Priests, the town has a population of 8,000 along with many small surrounding villages, farms and ranches that are home to the indigenous people as well as many immigrants of European descent.
Our school’s purpose is to provide a Christian education for the children and youth of the Moxos province by integrating biblical faith with all areas of the school curriculum, preparing the students to serve God, their nation and their neighbor.
Kevin and Katherine Stabler, YWAM missionaries who first arrived in the town of San Ignacio in 1986, believed that the Lord was calling them to play an active role in the education of the people they were called to serve. After much prayer and planning, construction began in July of 1996 with funds provided by supporting churches and friends. Upon receiving certification from the Bolivian Ministry of Education we opened our doors in February of 1997, receiving 120 students in Kindergarten through third grade.
The Lord has been faithful
to provide the needed funds enabling us to build and keep up with the growth in
student enrollment, which now numbers 300 in grades Kindergarten through 9th.
We plan
on adding one grade each year until we reach 12th grade and
as the Lord leads, provide many other educational opportunities for the
students. Currently the school operates with 14 full time teachers and several
volunteers helping with areas such as administration, teaching bible and
English. Some areas where individuals can help serve the students and their
families are teaching computer classes, music education and sports programs.
School director, Sarita Gutierrez was born and raised in San Ignacio. She
completed her DTS (Discipleship Training School) in 1994 and continued her
preparation for service in Christian Education in Tyler, Texas at YWAM’s
Teachers Training School. Currently Sarita is working towards a degree in
Education though a university in Bolivia.
We are called to proclaim the good news to all peoples that Jesus is our Savior, Lord and Friend and walk in obedience to his commands by loving God and our neighbor.
The church was formed by new believers who had come to the Lord through evangelistic bible studies in the beginning years of the ministry. In 1991 we purchased a property and together with the new believers built a small building where meetings were held until 2001 at which time growth spurred us on to constructing a new building. Currently we have about 70 children in our Sunday school and approximately 100 youth and adults meeting together at our weekly meetings. A new fellowship is being established by a team of young people in another town 90 miles to the west in San Borja.
